Atlas of Gulf of Mexico Gas and Oil Sands Data Available for Downloading

Files listed in the table below are for the Gulf of Mexico OCS Region only.  Please note that the sand sequence number included in the sand-level files is a unique identifier assigned to each assessed sand, and some of the non-assessed sands, to enable the user to track a sand from year to year regardless of changes (such as sand name, field, play, etc.) made to the sand.

In May 2003, a revised Biostratigraphic Chart of the Gulf of Mexico Offshore Region was published (see Biostratigraphic Chart of the Gulf of Mexico Offshore Region, Jurassic to Quaternary). Using standardized global stratigraphic concepts, this new version of the chart incorporates the latest information currently used as biostratigraphic datum markers by industrial paleontologists for the Mesozoic and Cenozoic geologic sections.  This biostratigraphic update eliminates the disjoint between the industry/academia biostratigraphic naming convention and the BOEMRE-standard chronozone naming convention.

In the sand tables available for download, the 2003sands and older files use the "Old" chronozones only.  The 2004sands file presents both the "Old" chronozones (in a column named OLD_CHRONOZONE) and the "Current" chronozones (in the column named CHRONOZONE) in order to facilitate your transition to the new chronozones.  Future files will present only the "Current" chronozones (in the column named CHRONOZONE).

Please read our disclaimer prior to downloading files.  Download a copy of the file you want by clicking on Delimited or Access (Microsoft Access) under the Download column of the table below.  The Delimited Format provides the data fields delimited with quotes (") and separated by commas (,).  Once you have downloaded the data and have decompressed the file using WinZip, the data can then be imported into a variety of database or spreadsheet packages to facilitate queries or reports.

For additional information, visit FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) about importing files.
