Description: Background: The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement (BOEMRE) is a member of the metocean industry joint group CASE/EJIP which has been managed by the ChevronTexaco Energy Technology Company since 1998. BOEMRE participation provides an exchange forum of oceanographic information and findings in the Gulf of Mexico (GOM) between BOEMRE and Industry. This is more important since BOEMRE focuses mainly in scientific aspects of oceanography while CASE/EJIP focuses on operational aspects pertinent to the industry. The success and relevancy of this arrangement is acknowledged by parties as a means to increase the value of their respective investments and efforts. |
Objectives: Numerical modeling of Gulf of Mexico deepwater circulation sponsored by CASE/EJIP will help BOEMRE in understanding important processes when observations are limited or unavailable and will help BOEMRE to construct a robust climatology of deepwater processes. The BOEMRE will benefit by continuing access to an industry database that will help us to understand deepwater currents in the Gulf of Mexico. This database has been useful to the BOEMRE in supplementing other deepwater data. Even though BOEMRE is presently in the process of gaining substantially more deepwater data, the CASE/EJIP data will continue to be useful in this supplemental role. By incorporating these data into our studies, we enhance the statistical confidence and the generality of their results, and this will influence the design and scope of future studies in deepwater. |
Methods: Model development is nearly finished, and modeling efforts will provide results of more practical use. As in prior years, the MMS can continue to share with its contractors all of the data and products with applicable restrictions. We will also continue participation as voting members of the Technical Advisory Committee and CASE/EJIP will continue to stay in communication with BOEMRE concerning the work being funded. |
Products: Reports, databases, and model output access |
Importance to BOEMRE: Membership will provide the BOEMRE access to model runs, raw and reduced data products, and occasional reports. |
Current Status: This activity was renewed for FY11. |
