Lease Stipulations

Lease stipulations are legally binding requirements that are made a part of every oil and gas lease document as and if appropriate.  They are developed and implemented on a sale by sale basis and are applied to individual leases based on specific instructions in the applicable Final Notice of Sale Package.  Stipulations place restrictions and operating requirements on lessees.  This may involve protection of environmentally sensitive organisms or communities that exist in the area covered by the lease, conflicts with other uses such as military operations, LNG or sand extraction.

Stipulations change from sale to sale as new information about species and communities is obtained.  The specific language of a stipulation is developed in consultation with other interested State and Federal agencies.
