MMS Opens Eastern Gulf Information Office in Pensacola, Florida

The U.S. Department of the Interior's Minerals Management Service (MMS) today announced the opening of a pilot information office in Pensacola, Florida.

The opening of this office is in response to an increased demand for information from Florida constituents concerning Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) activities in Federal waters offshore Gulf of Mexico States — Florida, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama.

This satellite office will

Provide area groups and individuals with a convenient point of contact with the MMS

Improve communication opportunities with Panhandle communities, local leaders, environmental and civic groups, and other interested parties

Provide logistical support on Eastern Gulf of Mexico issues back to the Regional Office located in New Orleans

The office will open Thursday, December 5, 1996.

MMS is the Federal agency that manages the Nation's natural gas, oil and other mineral resources on the OCS, and collects, accounts for, and disburses about $4 billion yearly in revenues from Federal offshore leases and Federal and Indian onshore mineral leases.
