MMS Sets Dates for Workshop to Discuss Historical Well Data Cleanup Contract

The Department of the Interior’s Minerals Management Service (MMS) announces a workshop on its Historical Well Data Cleanup (HWDC) contract, recently awarded to Petris Technology, Inc.  The half-day workshop will be held 9 a.m. till noon in Houston and New Orleans on February 17 and 23, 2000, respectively, to share HWDC contract goals with the Gulf of Mexico Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) oil and gas industry and their service company vendors and contractors.  Although the workshop is free, members of the public planning to attend should register in advance. (A form is attached.)

MMS designed the 4-year HWDC project to clean up its historical data for wells on offshore blocks in the Gulf of Mexico OCS Region (GOMR).  Two primary tasks of the project are (1) a systematic review, update, and cleanup of historical well information and (2) the creation of records for those wells not previously assigned MMS well names and numbers.

The agenda for the HWDC Workshop includes an overview of the HWDC statement of work, presentations by Petris on preliminary data cleaning results, and an opportunity for all stakeholders to exchange information regarding the HWDC methodology and to take part in it to make it successful.

The HWDC Workshop is open to participation by the oil and gas industry and their vendors who provide data services in the Gulf of Mexico OCS.  There is no charge.  The Houston workshop will be held at the MMS Royalty Management Program, Houston Compliance Division Office, 4141 N. Sam Houston Parkway, East, Suite 202.  The New Orleans workshop will be held at the MMS Gulf Region office at 1201 Elmwood Park Boulevard, Room 111.  For more information about the contract and the workshop, please call Warren Frederick at 504-736-2562.

The MMS is the Federal agency that manages the Nation’s oil, natural gas, and other mineral resources on the OCS; and collects, accounts for, and disburses about $4 billion in yearly revenues from offshore Federal mineral leases and from onshore mineral leases on Federal and American Indian lands.
