Swiler Receives Distinguished DOI Award
Eileen B. Swiler, a Metairie resident, received the highest award in the U.S. Department of the Interior, the Distinguished Service Award, from Secretary of the Interior Bruce Babbitt in a special ceremony in Washington Monday. Swiler had recently retired from the Minerals Management Service, the Interior agency responsible for offshore oil and gas activities, after a lifetime career there and with its predecessor, the Bureau of Land Management where she was responsible for staffing, budget, EEO, and the Quality Program, Swiler was honored for her consistently high and innovative performance.
MMS is the Federal agency that manages the Nation's natural gas, oil, and other mineral resources on the OCS, and collects, accounts for and disburses about $4 billion yearly in revenues from offshore Federal mineral leases and from onshore mineral leases on Federal and Indian lands.
