MMS Announces Product Price Changes in the Public Information Office

Prices for several products sold through the Gulf of Mexico Region’s Public Information Office have been changed as a result of a recent in-house evaluation. Sample maps, reports, ASCII files, and CD’s were assessed to determine if the current prices being charged to the public were accurate. After a thorough evaluation, it was determined that prices needed to be adjusted to cover the cost of computer enhancements and the sending information via ftp.

The following pricing schedule will be implemented on February 1, 2004.

CD’s

Prices for all other CD’s will remain the same.

Maps in the 8000 series of the Catalog of Public Information Requests, Data Files, Reports and Maps (ASCII, ArcInfo, and DXF formats).

The majority of the ArcInfo, DXF, and ASCII map data files are available on our website free of charge. All other hard copy customized maps - $125, with the exception of the Lease Development map - $350.

Standard pipeline maps remain at $25, and the pipeline index map and unit maps will stay priced at $50.

Visuals 1, 2, and 3 and the Hydrogen Sulfide Maps will all remain free of charge and the Protraction Block Maps will stay at $2 each.

Reports/ASCII Files

Copy Fees

Charges for publications will continue to reflect the direct costs associated with the production of the final product, except for the Environmental Impact Statements, Environmental Assessments, and Accident Investigation Reports, which will remain free of charge.

The Minerals Management Service is the federal agency in the U.S. Department of the Interior that manages the nation’s oil, natural gas, and other mineral resources on the Outer Continental Shelf in Federal offshore waters. The agency also collects, accounts for, and disburses mineral revenues from Federal and American Indian lands. MMS disbursed more than $8 billion in FY 2003 and more than $135 billion since the agency was created in 1982. Nearly $1 billion from those revenues go into the Land and Water Conservation Fund annually for the acquisition and development of state and Federal park and recreation lands.
